Dr Imants Rubenis is a General Cardiologist who is undertaking advanced fellowship in interventional cardiology. He has a strong interest in modern techniques for the treatment of heart disease, and in providing healthcare to patients in regional areas.
Dr Rubenis is very familiar with Port Macquarie and the Mid-North Coast region. He attended the University of New South Wales Port Macquarie Rural Clinical School, graduating with distinction in 2015. He then completed internship and residency at Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
Following this, he undertook Physician Training and Cardiology Advanced Training at Concord Repatriation General Hospital in Sydney. During his training, he completed a Master of Medicine degree from the University of Sydney and received awards in both research (CSANZ NSW AT Research Award 2022), and teaching (RMO Tutor of the Year, UNSW RCS 2017). He has had more than 40 research works presented at conferences or published in peer-reviewed journals, with a particular interest in healthcare outcomes for patients in regional and remote Australia.
Dr Rubenis has current appointments at Concord Hospital and The Mater Hospital and is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Sydney.
